What To Do When You Need Heating Repairs, But Everyone Is Booked

Heating repair work is easy enough to complete in the same day or the next when you do not need any heat. Of course, you were not thinking about your furnace when the weather outside said it was 102 degrees in the shade. Now that it is a chilly 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit out there, your furnace is not working and you need an HVAC technician badly. You will find that nearly every technician is heavily booked this time of year. However, there are some things you can do until a technician can squeeze you into his/her busy schedule.

Call Around to Find the Most Reasonable Technician

If you already have a reasonably-priced repair technician, you may want to call around anyway. The cost of repair services tend to go up during the colder months of the year because repair technicians are in high demand. Once you find a reasonably-priced technician (or your usual one is all you need), you will need to make an appointment. If the appointment is not agreeable because it is too far out, you may have to call him/her daily.

Grabbing a Last-Minute Cancellation Spot

Sure, you might feel as though you are bugging your technician by calling him or her daily, but things with his/her schedule change daily. Call at the start of his/her shift every day and ask if you can be bumped up. IF there have been any cancellations, you may get lucky and get a much-needed earlier appointment than the one you have. Some heating repair technicians can, and will, put cases like yours on a list of people who would like to get in sooner, if possible. When last-minute cancellations are made, you could grab that spot because you called that day and requested it!

Be Persistent AND Patient

Persistence in these cases pays off. However, you will still need to be patient, as every appointment that your technician has that day may be more serious a repair than expected. Then he/she would spend more time fixing the repairs before yours, and you would still have to wait. In the event that the technician cannot fit you in like he/she expected, you may get a call explaining why. The technician may even put you at the top of the list for the next day's repairs, which means he/she volunteers to come in extra early before his/her day even begins in order to complete your repairs.
