5 Benefits Of Ductless Air Conditioners

Jessie Nichols

If you are tired of summer heatwaves, it may be time to install a cooling unit. A ductless AC system could be the perfect option.

1. Suitable for Older Homes

Many older homes never had a central air conditioning unit installed and therefore may not be equipped with the ductwork needed for a proper installation. Furnace ducts can sometimes be used, but you may still need to have additional air returns and vents installed for proper cooling. In homes without ducts, there may not even be space between the walls and joists to put in the necessary ducts. A ductless system can help circumvent all of these issues.

2. Quick Installation

Ductless units go in relatively quickly. Your installer will drill a couple of holes to feed the AC lines through, typically one in the ceiling and another near the future location of the outside unit. The outside unit is then installed on the exterior of your home and the inside air handler is attached inside near the ceiling. The lines are hooked up and the unit is ready for use.

3. Energy Efficient

Compared to a traditional central AC unit, ductless units are typically more energy efficient. They are designed to cool smaller spaces with more efficiency instead of trying to maintain the same temperature in every nook and cranny of the home. This means they use less power. This is both better for the environment and for your wallet since reduced energy usage means lower electric bills.

4. Flexible Cooling Options

With a central AC, there is only one thermostat to control the entire unit. This means every room is cooled to the same temperature, even those rooms that are kept shut up and rarely used. It also means everyone in the household must compromise on the best temperature to keep every space. Ductless units are zoned cooling units, which means you can turn them off in little-used rooms and customize temperatures—such as in a bedroom—to individual preferences.

5. Combined Functionality

A central AC unit can do more than provide cooling. Many are also able to function as heating units that can be used as a supplement to another heating source or as your sole source of heat. Some units may also provide the option to add a combined air purifier, which means your air quality is improving each time you cool with the unit.

Exploring Newer Features for Heating and Cooling Systems

When my heating ventilation and air conditioning system began to hiccup last summer, I feared the worst. The technician who checked it confirmed my fears. If I didn't replace the unit soon, it would be a mighty chilly winter. That spurred me to start looking at new systems. What I found were several features my older unit did not have. The unit that I ultimately settled on automatically switches from heating to cooling based on the temperature setting. I can also reset the thermostat remotely or program it to change settings during the day. Winter turned out to be very comfortable at my house, thanks to that new unit. If you are in the market for a new HVAC system, let's talk. I'll give you some pointers on how to find the right one for your home.
